This course explores the history, culture, and environment of the Andes with a focus on pre-Inca, Inca, Colonial, and modern Andean history. We will study the lives of the Quechua and Aymara, indigenous South Americans, and their relations with colonial Europeans and later with European descendents. We will also study textile arts (weaving), and examine the multiple uses of land in agriculture, mining, coca, and wilderness preservation.
