The course theme is climate change policy, action and communication in the Puget Sound Region. We will examine how scientists, activists and educators can communicate about climate change in a way that promotes public knowledge about the issue and inspires action. Drawing from science, sociology, psychology, education theory, and the humanities, the course examines barriers and solutions to communicating climate change. We will explore recent scientific information about climate change and discuss ways to communicate this information to a variety of constituencies. The course is structured around three main areas: Exploring fundamental principles of effective communication; Developing and practicing skills in oral and written communication; Understanding, planning and applying communication strategies (using community engagement tools) to address climate change.
