EcoQuest strives to provide a sustainable learning community. EcoQuest offers interdisciplinary, hands-on learning. Our applied approach to field studies allows students to experience first-hand how science, management, planning and policy can interact. EcoQuest students have the opportunity to learn in an environment which acknowledges that the core of sustainability incorporates the natural environment, as well as people and their cultural, socio-economic and political realities. We learn in, about and for the environment, alongside people from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds.
EcoQuest has a dual focus on education and research. This, coupled with our emphasis on and commitment to service learning, provides students with learning opportunities through real-life case studies and research. All students get a rigorous grounding in ecology, resource management and environmental policy. Semester students have the opportunity to partake in applied research for 4-5 weeks. Our students' research findings make substantial contributions to conservation outcomes in New Zealand. EcoQuest gives students the chance to develop skills and tools to make a difference anywhere on the globe.
Te Rarangahau Taiao means the quest for the natural world. It also means weaving together the strands. We weave the strands of knowledge and understanding, of connections and common futures; not just within Aotearoa New Zealand, but also between New Zealand and the U.S. through our partnership with the University of New Hampshire.
